Hi, my name is Megan Rubinstein, and I like to solve problems through design. Many years ago, I was looking for a coffee table. But not just any old coffee table. I needed a lot of storage because my house had none. While shopping, I ran into two problems. The tables I could afford were low-quality and didn’t have the features I wanted, and the ones that had the right features, I couldn’t afford. So, using my design skills, I designed the coffee table wanted and then built it. I didn’t know it then, but the idea for my business was born.

Sugarberry Designs is a one-woman studio based in North East, Maryland, where I combine woodworking with graphic design to make handcrafted furniture, home décor products, and gifts of the highest quality. In addition to ready-to-order products, such as serving trays and wall art, I specialize in creating custom, tailor-made products that cater to a customer’s unique needs.

In recent years, the arts and crafts industry has experienced a rebirth as consumers have sought alternatives to mass-produced items. They are seeking handmade, one-of-a-kind, locally sourced products. And they value the story and artistry behind each piece they bring into their homes or gift to their friends and family. In 2020, the arts and crafts industry generated over $42 billion in revenue, and it is projected to reach $63.59 billion by 2028 (Business Research Insights, 2023).

Problem Solved & Need Fulfilled

Today, the market is saturated with products from two ends of the spectrum. On the one end are high-priced, custom products, which are inaccessible to many individuals due to budget constraints. Individuals who desire personalized and unique products must settle for mass-produced alternatives or compromise on their preferences.

This exclusivity leads to the other end of the spectrum: mass-produced, low-quality products. Mass-produced products often prioritize cost-cutting measures, resulting in lower-quality materials and construction. As a result, these items tend to have shorter lifespans and are more prone to breakage. In addition, mass-produced products are designed to appeal to a broad consumer base, which means they lack the individuality and personalization that many customers desire. 

Sugarberry Design Studio fills the need of the middle. I pride myself on the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into every item I create. I am passionate about my craft and possess the skills to bring my customer’s visions to life.
